One clear sign that the outsourcing industry is maturing is the increased emphasis on the role of the client.

More and more clients are responsible for engaging with the supplier, carrying out those actions on which the supplier is dependent and providing direction and governance. Consequently, there has been increased focus on the retained organisation i.e. the people, structures and systems which the client owns and which are critical to the success of any outsourcing deal.
